Call for Nominations Silver Rose Awards 2025

Description

Deadline

The nomination deadline for the Silver Rose Awards 2025 is 30 June 2025 (end of day). All submissions must be received by this date to be considered.

The Silver Rose Awards are a prestigious annual recognition program organized by SOLIDAR, a European network of progressive civil society organisations. Established over 20 years ago, the awards honor outstanding individuals, groups, or organisations that are actively driving forward social justice, equality, solidarity, and a just transition—particularly in challenging political or social contexts.

For 2025, the awards focus on changemakers whose work advances the vision of a socially just transition. This includes activists, journalists, grassroots movements, policy advocates, trade unionists, and civil society groups that are mobilising communities, influencing public policy, or raising awareness on key social, economic, and climate issues.

The Silver Rose is not simply a trophy—it is a platform. Winners receive European-level visibility, a public award ceremony in Brussels, and the opportunity to amplify their work to key political audiences, including members of the European Parliament, civil society partners, and international media. Awardees are also invited to join an advocacy tour, where they meet with progressive political stakeholders to further their causes.

Benefits

  • International Recognition: The award honors individuals or organisations working toward a socially just transition, especially in contexts where social and political activism faces resistance.
  • Visibility and Influence: Winners gain exposure among European civil society, policy influencers, and progressive political networks, including the European Parliament.
  • Support for Advocacy: The award provides a platform to amplify voices, showcase struggles and successes, and influence policymaking and public discourse.
  • Celebration and Networking: Awardees are invited to a high-level ceremony in Autumn 2025, organised by SOLIDAR in collaboration with the S&D Group, FEPS, ETUC, PES Women, and Young European Socialists.

Eligibility

Nominations are open to:

  • Individuals, organisations, or collectives (including grassroots movements, community initiatives, trade unions, NGOs, and journalists)
  • Those working within or outside of Europe, provided their work contributes meaningfully to the just transition—a shift to a fairer, more sustainable, and inclusive world
  • Nominees can come from civil society, activism, independent media, advocacy, or organised labour

Criteria

Nominees should meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. Campaigning or Political Journalism: They have brought the topic of a socially just transition into the public and political arena.
  2. Policy Advocacy: They have worked to shape laws, policies, or decisions related to equality, social protection, climate justice, or workers’ rights.
  3. Movement Building: They have led or supported community organising, coalition development, grassroots mobilisation, or network formation that advances social justice.
  4. Impact: Their work has led to tangible change, such as increased awareness, legal reform, strengthened communities, or wider mobilisation around pressing issues.
  5. Courage and Innovation: Preference is given to work carried out under challenging conditions, where perseverance and creativity have been crucial to success.
